Hole #1
The opening hole at Cumberland is a downhill, dogleg left, par 5, measuring 520 yards from the member tees. A good drive will give long hitters the opportunity to go for the green in two, but be careful, the green is protected by a pond to the right. Shorter hitters will lay up with a mid iron, leaving a wedge to the green. Par is a good start but this is definitely a birdie hole.

Hole #6
Cumberland Lake's second par five on the front 9 is another risk-reward hole. Favor the left side on your tee shot and the terrain of the hole will funnel your ball back to the fairway. A lake parallels the right side of the fairway for the 1st couple of hundred yards. A pushed tee shot can bring the water into play. Long hitters, and golfers who play the senior tees, have a good chance of getting home in two. Others should lay up with a mid to long iron or fairway wood leaving a wedge for your third shot. Watch out for the greenside bunker guarding the front of the green. Try to stay below the hole on your approach shot as this green is quick from back to front.

Hole #7
One of the best and prettiest par 4’s on the course. #7 plays downhill and measures 384 yards from the white tees; 345 yards from the senior tees. Longer hitters will need to use a fairway wood or long iron off the tee as water lurks over the hill where the fairway doglegs left about 260 yards from the tee. Shorter hitters may use a driver off the tee but try to favor the left side of the fairway. Your second shot to the downhill green, guarded by a bunker on the right front side, will be with a mid to short iron. Tee shots that end up on the right side of the fairway will have a more difficult short iron shot over water and the green side bunker. Par is a great score on this terrific golf hole.

Hole #11
The panoramic views form the elevated teeing area on this short par four are astounding. After you have taken in the scenery make sure your club selection leaves you in the fairway as trouble lurks both right and left. A good drive will leave you with a downhill wedge to a large, but well bunkered, green. An accurate short iron should result in a good birdie opportunity.

Hole #13
Another of Cumberland's beautiful holes, this slightly downhill par three plays from 160 – 185 yards depending on the pin placement. The green is protected by bunkers on all four corners. Your club selection is usually affected by swirling winds that can be hard to detect above the tall pines that encircle this hole. Birdie opportunities are more accessible for pin placements on the front or left side of the green.

Hole #18
A great finishing hole. The hole doglegs left around the 85 acre lake which borders the left side of the fairway for the entire length of the hole. This is another risk-reward shot where drives to the left side of the fairway will leave short iron but also bring Cumberland Lake into play on the tee shot. Big hitters may want to try and cut the corner of the dogleg with their drive. "Cutting the corner" requires a 240 yard carry over the lake. For shorter hitters the smart play is to drive a fairway wood or long iron down the center of the fairway to the 150 yard marker. Your approach shot will be to an elevated green with bunkers guarding both the right side and left side of the green. This green is sloped from back to front and can be very fast if your approach ends up above the hole.
